And a serious bout of writer’s block sets in.įrazzled and filled with self-doubt, Dickens seeks solace in his great palace of thinking, the city of London itself. But when his publishers try to blackmail him into writing a Christmas book to save them all from financial ruin, he refuses. While his wife plans a lavish holiday party for their ever-expanding family and circle of friends, Dickens has visions of the poor house. His newest book is an utter flop, the critics have turned against him, relatives near and far hound him for money.

“Charles Dickens is not feeling the Christmas spirit. Well, it was a no brainer that I just HAD to add this to my holiday season enjoyment immediately. I mentioned in a previous Christmas book review how much I adore “A Christmas Carol: retellings (“A Muppet Christmas Carol” still reigns supreme to me BTW….with “Scrooged” in second place as my fave grown up version retelling) so when I saw THIS book- a retelling of how A Christmas Carol was MADE.

I finished it up this morning and I just LOVED IT. It completely added to my feelings of Christmas cheer the past few days as I listened. Yall… this book was just a yuletide DELIGHT. Mr Dickens and His Carol by Samantha SilvaĪ book review written on Christmas Eve is JUST so appropriate for this read!
